You will not get any gain or fantastic performance out of antenna like this. It is simply too short. Also the antenna won't tune on vhf above 145.500 so it is useless for the American market. These are madeand tuned for the European market no matter what it says on the antenna.

Definitely not a high gain antenna but it's compact and does the job for my APRS rig. I'd go with a full sized antenna if I was planning on making a lot of contacts or needed a higher level or reliability. Most important for me was to get the antenna outside the car. Functions about the same as my HT antenna but being outside makes all the difference.

I decided to go with this style antenna on my 23 f150 due to the body is made of aluminum and mag mounts won’t work. It was easy to mount and has a nice rubber pad to prevent scratches on your vehicle. And considering the size of the antenna, it actually has good range. I was impressed
