Mine was blunt. The the side that was supposed to be sharp was as dull as the back of the blade. I have the equipment and ability to sharpen it, but if you don't, you might want to skip this one.The blade material is acceptable for this price point. The handle material is a mix of plastic and rubber which is riveted to the blade. There is a bit of slack/wiggle between the blade and handle. Nothing major, but I might better secure it or make a better handle for it.

It works well for thin new growth. Was taking off some branches on a fallen tree to prep it for the chainsaw (softer coniferous deadwood. I pushed it over, snapped at the roots. Less than 35' tall). Some of the large branches (2" diameter)were folding the edge on impact! (Avoiding knots of course, and striking on an angle). Handy for brush clearing and new growth.

I never write reviews because I simply do not have time to do this. However, I do read some. I have used this product before this purchase. I could not buy locally so I bought here. This product works as should. Some reviews talk about how its dull, will not cut, etc. This is ALL false information (for the most part).These people that comment like that do not know how to sharpen anything. This machete has a factory ground edge. We sharpen ours each day to the point they shave. Take about 10 minutes the first time and about 2 minutes each day after that to keep it that way. Its not a product flaw its a purchaser flaw in not knowing WHAT or HOW to do something. Mainly for themselves.Use a mill bastard file I like a 12" to sharpen it. I also prefer a handle on the file.So the product is great, performs well, and will cut your arm off if you would like for it too.

it is too hot and dry to cut a way to the banks of the creek, but as soon as the cooler wetter weather arrives I'll put it to good use.

Product exactly as descibed. Not as sharp as it could be but still good. Spine is thicker than you would expect for this price point.
