I purchased two of these elements to install in my home’s water heater to replace the failed 5500W elements from a local store. These elements seem to be well made, but time will tell how long they last. I chose the 6500W elements and their resistance measured 9.3 ohms, which means a power draw of 6,193W at 240V. A little under the rated wattage, but close. Both of these elements running together were pulling 12.7 kilowatts at 243V according to my Klein clamp meter. These elements run silently also, unlike the elements they replaced I can not hear them running at all. I’m not sure why some reviewers have had trouble with the seals that come with these elements, they seem to be high quality and I have no issues with leaks. The one complaint I have is that the design of the screw terminals isn’t very good. The head of the screw is small compared to other elements and the terminals have no hole to hold the wire, so it must be bent into a U shape and wrapped around the screw for a proper connection. I had a hard time getting 10 gauge solid wire to stay under the screw as I was tightening it, but I got it after a couple tries. I suspect the poorly designed wire terminals may be why some reviewers have reported that the plastic part of the element has melted or that they had problems with the terminals failing, they may not have gotten the wires securely attached. It is critical that you securely attach the wires to the screw terminals, if you don’t get a solid connection the terminals will overheat and fail as some reviewers have described.

Works great in electric brewery. Installed in 16 gallon kettle and heats up quickly, cleans up great, much better than camco, and after using for at least 50 gallons of beer there is still absolutely no rust.

I replaced the coils in my hot water heater with these 6 months ago. I am hoping the iron in the water will not bond to theses like it does on regular elements. It seems to be working. Regular elements get coated with iron sludge and causes water to pop due to heat transmission/boiling issues. This leads to dangerous conditions in the water tank that can cause failure. I used to clean the elements every 3 months or so and replace the anode every 2 years. I will open up this summer to see how they do after a year of no service. I did replace the anode with an electric so that may help also. I paid the same price for these that I can get a regular strait element for locally. I feel I did not lose any money on this experiment.

Using it on a 10gal pot. Heats up well on 110volts but haven't pushed it on 220volts. Using brewhardware tri clamp enclosure.UpdateBeen using it for almost a year now and still works. Using a multi meter the power output at 110v is 1300 watts. I thought it would push more. The surface area covered is still more than a strait element. I would recommend if the power meets your needs and you want a low watt density element.
