Accurate hackle length can make a big difference in the finished fly. This gauge works like many other hackle gauges on the market but it has some added features that set it above the rest. First is the head on the center pin that keeps the hackle on the pin while measuring. It may not seem like much but it really does add to the efficiency and utility of this gauge. Second is the oval hole that slips over the vise riser. By mounting this on the vise the riser acts like a 3rd hand to hold the gauge while you measure your hackle. Furthermore, you can swing it out of the way after use. Simple design features that really stack up to save time and add efficiency when tying flies. All of my other hackle gauges are now relegated to the box of unused fly tying tools.

Nice design and well made hackle gauge.Gauges hackle from #28 (the size of the pin) to #8 (from pin to edge). Hook sizes from #16 to #4Designed to hang from a 3/8" vice shaft at a downward angle and very comfortable to use.
