I have written reviews about these before. They fit perfectly, come with a new o'ring and heat just fine. Only reason I continue to have to replace one or two per year is that we have VERY hard water. Get 3 for the price of one

We have used these heating elements exclusively for the last several years (since installing a tankless water heater). We have purchased 15 elements since 2017 and they have all fit and worked perfectly. We are on (hard) well water and have a Kinetico whole house water softener system, but the elements still only last 18 to 24 months; it take 3 elements to run the water heater.

Haven’t installed on demand unit yet. I got the unit from my dad who bought it on eBay and it sat for nearly a year before he had it professionally installed. It failed immediately. Plumber said unit was defective. Dad bought a different unit from Rheem this time. I took the EcoSmart unit apart and found that element was cooked. Ordered this one. When one of my rental properties needs a new HWT, the EcoSmart on demand unit goes in. Fingers crossed all goes well.

We've had our water heater for 6 years with no problems. Last week, my wife heard a bang when I was showering and our hot water stopped. Water pressure plummeted and faucets without a filter were dumping some kind of sediment out. Unfamiliar with the water heater's maintenance, I had no idea what was wrong; I contacted a couple of plumbers to see what it might cost us.The plumbers I spoke to refused to do any kind of repair work on a tankless electric water heater. The manufacturer also doesn't have technicians to send out, so the only thing I could get the plumbers to consider was to replace the entire unit. One of them wanted $750-1000, not including materials or the water heater (another $500). I decided to look into replacement parts myself first.I read Robin Settle's review here and her problem sounded exactly like what we were experiencing. One of our three heating elements had essentially exploded, causing the element to expand and split open, dumping insulation into our water supply. Since it was stuck, I needed to hit it upwards with a hammer and screwdriver to remove it. I replaced it with the new part and everything worked perfectly. The entire repair process, had I known what to do from the start, would have only taken 15 minutes. Even if you're not terribly handy around the house, it was a very easy repair; just make sure you have something to remove and install the part - lacking a 1.5" wrench, I used some groove joint pliers. It's worth learning how to do: $40 is a lot cheaper than $1250-1500!It is worth noting that this product does not come with any o-rings. I was able to reuse the ring from the busted heating element.

I've used "on demand" water heaters in Europe and Asia. They were point of use heaters. This whole house item is more finicky. First off, the heating element should have lasted longer than a year and is a normal use item meaning pay for it. In 40+ years of living in this house, I have never had to replace a tank element for the life of the two tanks that I've had.Secondly, it takes a while to get to temperature which means the dishwasher never sees hot water. Third, a change in flow results in a change in temp until it stabilizes. The only advantage is that it takes less place and maybe saves a bit of electricity.
