Because of this , we can not call it a new motor , because it is the dead of winter right now , it will be several months before I can even test it . It says 2 year warranty right on the box so I can only hope that this holds true . If it has a high pitch squeal or buzz , I will upload a short video of it come summer time .One week later I opened the box and found out that this motor is actually a 100% variable speed not a 5 speed forward and 3 reverse . This is a big bonus for me because first of all they are more efficient and often the other type of motors , one speed is to fast for trolling and the lower speed is to slow . The box and manual does not reflect the motor inside . To buy an equivalent motor of 55 lbs thrust and 100% variable speed is $400 more then what I paid . I got mine for $225 all in . So I am very happy about this and adding one more star . If it preforms as good as my old 48 lbs thrust I will give it a 5 star . The hum or buzz that comes from the controller does not bother me . I tried it in the house ( no wind or wave action ) and it does not bother me . Look closely at the 3rd picture . It says right on it 100% variable speed .

Several problems: 1) It does not allow 15v or higher batteries. Mine charges to 16.8v when fully charged. 2) Only 100% speed works, lower speeds run with continuous alarming noise that make one feel something is wrong. 3) the motor starts to run after a time gap of more than a sec when the swtich is turned. No desire to keep it atfer a trial.

This motor is loud ! All these 12V motors make the same alarming sound when running.The manufacturer acts like they have no idea what you’re talking about, however all their motors do this.Read the comments/reviews…how can we all be complaining about the same thing ?Unless you can handle a continuous loud alarm noise, save your frustration of dealing with this, and buy elsewhere.I bought 2 since my father also wanted one, had to return both.I’ll say the power and construction are great, it’s just too bad the peaceful stroll you hope for, from an electric trolling motor, sounds like an annoying door alarm from leaving your car door open.Just too bad…i had high hopes after needing something other than a Minn Kota, that keep breaking down every year or two.
