I like the brass material over plastic. The scales are somewhat difficult to read - some contrast on the lines/numbers would help us old guys read it. Seems accurate enough for smaller items, but there is a little play in the slide when extended out. I use it for measuring on topographic maps, so it does what I need. If you need it for accurate measurements of mechanical items, you might seek out a digital caliper.

Definitely was not impressed with this caliper. Found it to be sloppy at the end of the slide and not very easy to read.

I came across this accidentally while looking for a vernier calliper and laughed when I saw it. I bought mine at least 15 years ago (before Amazon) and I use it all the time for quick measures. The metal has darkened slightly over the years but it's still a go to. I'm sure this is a generational item, meaning, unless they leave it outside, your kid you inherit and enjoy it too!
