The Thumb roller for precision setting apparently does not have the same number of threads per unit of length, since it simply just slips off, thus a precision measurement is very difficult. This is a manufacturing flaw. Unfortunately, we did not use the equipment until recently, so we just discovered this problem. Another issue is with ID vs OD measurements. When you measure OD, you get measurements that could be all right, should the above issue be solved. However, when measuring ID, the moveable leg does not remain parallel to the fixed leg, so the measurement reading is off. In other words, the scale attached to the moveable leg can move axially also, when it should be limited to a longitudinal motion. I could reconsider my review if they change the caliper for one that does not have these issues. Otherwise, I am afraid I lost my money and recommend no avoid purchasing this item. Thank You.

It allows precision measurements of things like motorcycle chassis, suspension geometry, other welded constructions. Very handy. It is a little rough in its construction, you can tell it from a Starrett. You need to tighten the fine adjust against its travel limit, for example, to move the lower jaw, or else the fine adjust boss will cock and stop the jaw from moving. But once you learn to talk to it, it delivers satisfying results.
