While I usually keep my paperwork in a fireproof bag, I wanted a case with a locking mechanism to double up on the protection. It's important to keep in mind for pretty much any fire proofing safe out there, the locking mechanism isn't going to be a significant deterrent. While it's a nice to have, don't rely on it. With that said, this safe is okay, but comes with a few issues. The first and biggest in my opinion being the locking mechanism is cheap metal that bends easily. This causes the safe to, at times, not lock properly. I broke a key on my second time using the safe trying to lock it again before I realized what the issue was.If you're okay at times bending the lock back into place though, then this safe really isn't all that bad and should do the trick just fine.Pros:- While I haven't tested it in a fire or water, it seems durable enough that it should work- The case has a briefcase style handle making it easy to transportCons:- The locking mechanism bends at times and causes it to not lock properly (I already broke one key trying to force it locked)- Smaller than expected; you can fit one set of 8.5x11 papers depending on thickness, but that's about it- Decent weight to it. If you're a smaller individual, this may be heavy for you to lift or carry away- The inner felt padding moves around and doesn't stay in place
