After a week of using it the sliding action around the 6”-8” area started “sticking “Couldn’t figure out why so a returned it and ordered another. For the price you can’t go wrong but makes me wonder if they are maybe seconds?Fit and finish was perfect.I’d recommend buying it a this price point.

Seems like a great caliper

Quality is undoubtedly high, precision is high, finish is impeccable.. if you have serious machining or engineering to do, get one of these! More of 4.8/5 stars than anything, but I can't choose such rating.Love the NON-Auto ON. I like my caliper off when I turn it off, and on when I turn it on. Quality silver oxide battery included (last much longer than alkaline equivalents). The caliper knows where it is, no matter what. Off, or even in relative measurement mode, it doesn't lose its absolute position, which is awesome.Two gripes tho, for such a high quality product, the inch/mm is hard to press, even have to use my nail sometimes. Also, there isn't any fraction display in inches, which isn't such a big drawback, but I'd expect a top notch caliper to at least have all the bells and whistles. SAE measurements are already a pain in the ass for metric folks, that would've been a huge help..Would I still buy again? Of course.

These are genuine mitutoyo calipers, there's not really much more to say about them. They work perfectly, they measure perfectly, the battery lasts forever and the absolute measurement means you never need to zero the calipers.Yes, these are expensive, significantly more expensive than the 150mm version but that extra 50mm over a 'standard' caliper makes a big difference - many times I've maxed out a standard caliper, the 200mm range is well worth having.Whilst cheap digital calipers are generally very good, they can be a bit hit and miss. Measurements with cheap calipers are typically very good, but they don't always run smoothly or can have points where the measurement skips, the steel isn't as hard as quality calipers and the grind of the faces isn't as good. The Mitutoyos of course exhibit none of these issues, they are incredibly smooth across the entire range, the steel is exceptional and the grinding is perfect. It doesn't matter how fast you open/close the calipers, it will never miss a step, and zero is always exactly zero.This model is not coolant proof, so not good for machinists, but they are perfect for engineers working at a desk or clean environment. Mitutoyo do of course have the coolant proof/waterproof version for use in a machine shop.

Though not cheap, Mitutoyo is without a doubt the highest quality caliper (vernier) out there.For DIY the 500-197-30 Advanced Onsite Sensor (AOS) Absolute Scale is probably the most versatile (8" 200mm) of the entire range.
