We designed this SDR from the ground up in order to develop the best low-cost SDR in existence.
The result? A reduction in the noise floor of an AVERAGE of ~3dB over the already high-performing NESDR SMArt (v1-v3)--with an additional always-on bias-tee feature--all in the same fantastic form factor!
This premium RTL-SDR was designed, developed and fabricated by Nooelec in the USA and Canada, and comes complete with a full 2-year product warranty.
Included:
- NESDR SMArTee SDR w/ brushed aluminum enclosure
- Antenna base w/ 2m RG58 cable
- Telescopic antenna mast (variable frequency)
- 433MHz (ISM) antenna mast (fixed frequency)
- UHF antenna mast (fixed frequency)
SDR features:
- The NESDR SMArTee contains the same ultra-low phase noise 0.5PPM TCXO used in our much smaller Nano 3 (TCXO specifications below), ensuring ultimate tuning stability in nearly any environment.
- In the quest for lower noise, the power supply section utilizes an RF-suitable voltage regulator with under 10 µVRMS of noise. That is at least 10x lower than other designs!
- A quality shielded inductor was used in the power supply to improve EMI rejection.
- The included aluminum enclosure ensures stray EMI stays where it belongs--away from the sensitive RF circuitry.
- Lower board-level temperatures further improves the SDR noise floor.
- Full ESD circuitry on both the antenna input and the USB port provides protection for your investment, and peace of mind that your SDR will work when you need it most.

This SDR works really well. It does get a little hot, but that is very normal for them, so one simply has to ensure it is in a safe place. It comes with antennas that are pretty good for starting out, but I would recommend to get some better antennas for anyone who wants to do anything long range, or anything along those lines. My antenna stand did break after a couple months of use, but I wasn't the most gentle with it, and I just bought a couple new antennas without that stand. It worked instantly as soon as I plugged it in, no drivers needed. Overall though, the kit is really good for starting out with.

Bundled antenna does not pick up fm stations very well. Can pick up a decent amount of noise indoors. I have been able to pick up local shortwave repeaters and nearby fm stations.

I love this unit. I still have no idea what to do with it but I have learned so much new information just looking at what's floating through the ether/air. If you have a teen that is interested in this stuff it'll save you hunting for a cooler toy/tool. Software installation from the NooElec website went without a hitch. It's a little old-school driver installs but easy. It's absolutely fascinating to a kid that rebuilt tube amps in the 1990's to have tech like this that is a USB dongle - USB didn't exist yet we used serial and parallel ports like bosses. The #1 thing for me is being able to tighten up a FM radio station - there's no comparison here. This is the tightest and cleanest FM (CNFY 102.1 for example) I've ever heard in Toronto. - this is worth the price alone.

You get all the goods with this product., antennas, antenna mount etc. Very well made. I used this with a Raspberry Pi to make an aircraft tracker as part of a world community project. I was surprised how well it works. I have bought several items from this company and I have been very pleased with everything.

Product was received as indicated . After ordering two similar units I found this one actually worked but NOT until I contacted Nooelec to get install information. Their suggestions worked and my SDR is now up and running. My issue is the maker, supposedly because of COVID, no longer has phone support. Much of my issue could have been solved by a 45 min phone call or if a small install sheet was included in the package. They include 3 antennas but give NO information on what frequencies they cover. You must go to their website to find out and getting around their site is NOT easy. the info is there but just try and find it !!!It is a shame that a well built device with the potential to be very useful in listening to signals most of us did not know existed is so hard to get running. Although their C.S. responded quickly and their instructions resulted in the product working surely a small instruction sheet would have eliminated all my frustrations.

Works good for adsb, can pickup aircraft over 300km away, I did get the nooelec premium antenna bundle also. I am not making use of the bias tee, but it is there when I need it which is nice to know for future projects.

El producto se calienta mucho y es difícil de instalar no tiene instrucciones claras, una vez configurado es fácil quemarse si lo tiene instalado en tu laptop.Aún así funciona bastante bien y decodifica muy bien el radio.

*** UPDATE October 6, 2018 ***The replacement unit arrived and, so far, is working great.*** UPDATE September 30, 2018 ***My original review is below. After just 24 hours of use, the unit is causing problems. It keeps dying and hanging my computer. I called customer support and a return/refund is underway. I'm not yet giving up on this unit ... I have just repurchased, so we'll see how the replacement holds up!My advice for anyone purchasing this device is to run it continuously for the first 24-48 hours (... just turn the volume down!) If there are going to be any hardware problems with your particular unit, they are likely to appear during this time and you can then simply do a return through Amazon._______________________________________________________________________________I really just wanted stereo FM radio capability on my PC, so this purchase may have been a little overboard, for me. I do like not having to have a regular FM radio for entertainment! I also have a BT transmitter attached to my PC, so being able to transmit to the speakers in my kitchen is very handy. After following the instructions, the device installed OK and was recognized by my Windows 7 PC. I settled on the SDR# (SDR Sharp) software. It can be a little overwhelming to someone not really into the hobbyist side of radio / SDR, as there are a lot of options. I fumbled through and managed to understand the features I wanted to use and reception is good where I am. (I'm actually using one of those square HDTV antennas with an adaptor on the cable).SDR Sharp does not actually need to be "installed" on your computer, so it does not add anything to the Windows Registry. You just need a folder in which to unzip the software, then you add the DLL file for this specific device. The user guide is sketchy and appears aimed at the radio enthusiast. The function of each of the options (the drop-downs, check boxes and buttons) on the interface screen should be explained. Also, there should be a way to minimalize the screen ... to remove the rolling graphic display, which would probably mostly not be needed for normal usage. This unit gets hot when you have the software running and are receiving a signal. I have mine suspended by cable in mid-air. You would do best to run these units via an extension USB cable, just to keep the heat away from your computer's case and also, don't use these in an enclosed cabinet or place them on furniture for the same reason. One of my Windows 7 updates knocked out the driver, so I had to re-install - something to keep in mind if you do a Windows update and your unit suddenly stops working.I would recommend this unit to others, with just one reservation ... you'll need to hunt for things and if you are not a little computer-savvy, you might have issues getting the device to work on your computer.

Having moved out of the area of comms over 20 years ago (maintaining high-power marine radar & comms systems - with exposure to commercial, aka very expensive, test equipment) I was looking at getting back into the amateur-radio side of things. Had never heard of SDR so was intrigued to give it a go - absolutely gobsmacked with what you can do with this dongle. For the price it really is quite amazing, from the build quality to its performance and functionality (obviously via s/w on a laptop).
