To pull the steering knuckle from the front lower control arms, every YouTube video on this year and model car recommends prying the aluminum cast steering knuckle apart. I used a pry bar and didn’t have much luck in the tight space of the fender well. I bought a cheap “steering knuckle spreader”. Finally, I used this and I slowly cranked it with a 3/4” wrench and it smoothly worked the stud of the ball joint out of the steering knuckle. It didn’t reach all the way so I put a socket between the bolt of the spreader and the ball joint stud just to add some length and it eventually pushed the ball joint all the way out. This was worth every dollar. I had another, much larger ball joint press but it was too large to fit behind the steering knuckle and this worked perfectly.

The surface that contacts a ball joint bolt is flat, so this slips a lot as you tighten down.I was not able to separate my bj with this tool.

This tool is similar to the Mopar ball joint tool. It popped the ball joints and tie rods on my wk1 grand Cherokee without damaging the boots.

Bought for an unrelated industrial application. Tool fit into the confines of our workspace. Applied a little grease to the threads and cranked away. Average amount of torque was used and the tool worked great. Pressed pins from the circumference of a flange.

Bought this to work on my 2001 Suburban but had to use it on my sister's 98 Suburban. Bad Pitman arm. That setup is pretty tight so our other puller wouldn't fit. Got this one in place and it fit perfectly and popped the arm out of the center link with no strain! This product is solid and well built with a great price. However, as with ANY threaded puller, make sure you add a good lubricant to the threads before you use it. It does ship with a preservative oil on them but it needs a good coating of lube before each use to ensure no damage to the threads of the screw or body of the tool. Do that and this unit will give you a long and good service life!

The ball joint separator did not break loose my joint. It just broke. It feels heavy and well made but a complete break like shown in the pic reveals substandard material.Do not buy.

it worked perfect to remove the broken rear wheel stud out of the hub in my jeep wrangler JK 2011 . This separator pushed the broken stud out of the hub easiy while hammer could not do it .

I use this tool to release ball joints. It is working very well and easily. So I recommend it.

I had to replace all the suspension arms on my 2013 Mercedes S550 W221 Base, and I needed a ball joint separator for the job. So I gave this one a try, and it worked like a champ. It fits very well in tight spaces and pops the ball joints very easily without any damage. Although one may be tempted to leave the inner cap nut on and push the ball joint with it, I had better results removing the cap, and letting the ball bearing in the center of the push pin do its job preventing any slippage. This tool design works better on my car, and any other car for the same job than the fork-pressing tool. And the price is just perfect. Don't waste your money getting a similar but more expensive tool, this one fits and works on Mercedes like the more expensive one does.
