Had sticker shock when I went to my kayak’s manufacturer for a hatch. More so when I learned their hatch has some unhappy reviews. Found this one with all the features I wanted. Great choice - good seals. The bag insert isn’t spectacular but nothing I can’t update if needed. I installed the hatch primarily to access the stern of the hull for electrical updates. I hosed it down after installing it - zero water intrusion. And I think by appearances the hatch looks like it came from the manufacturer.Head’s up the hatch rough opening was 6.25”. I used a Dremel and a barrel sanding bit. I’m happy with my purchase.

Good quality hatch, but it didn’t include screws to mount. I returned the 1st delivery due to missing screws and the replacement also had missing screws. I decided to say screw it, and purchase some screws at a specialty hardware store.

This is more waterproof than other designs. It seems to work fine so far.

Many have complained that it does not come with fasteners.. honestly the gasket for geting a proper watertight seal on a kayak is far more valuable to me then screws.. one room for improvement is the hinge hardware could be more durable my first hatch I accidentally cracked one part of the hatch where the top part screws in... I tired to plastic weld it with fiberflex and retap but at that point for the price I said il just buy another.. properly installed you will get a nice water tight seal.. kayak users look to sikaflex and high quality buntyl tape. Using both properly all though you could get away with using just sikaflex I was able to plug scupper holes and have siting water atop the hatch with no leaks.. I'm sure with any Marine hatch there's been the view saying it's not watertight it leaks whatever but honestly that's due to user error do more research do it properly and for the price this is hard to beat.. Like I said I do wish the hatch hinge area was alittle beefed up. But for the cost you can't go wrong

My decision was based on lid design and preventing leakage. From reading the reviews on other designs in this price range, the biggest complaint is leakage.I like this design because the lid covers the whole lid including frame. Other designs, the lid is recessed into the frame. In this design there is an inner O-ring that is integrated into the lid verses other designs have the O-ring integrated into the frame. In this design, when water is dribbled onto the top, it roles off to the outer edges vs the other designs where the water sits between the frame and lid.I'd like to thank the person who designed this kayak lid. It is very ingenious.I would have paid alittle more for this superior designed product. So this item exceeded my expectations. Material wise, it is slightly below more expensive covers I've owned in the past. The inner bag is not water proof and is thin nylon. Regardless, for the job of a non leaking kayal lid, this design does a better job than the others.
