I got this to help separate some ball joints while repairing the front control arms on my 2012 Audi Q5. It is a well made tool and worked as expected.

Useful for the home mechanic to separate stuck upper ball joints but not so much for lower ball joints where space is limited swinging a hammer sideways past the fender from a seated position with the vehicle only raised on jack stands. I had to take the car to my local garage for the joint to be separated with the car on a hoist and room to stand under the car to apply the hammer with full force overhead swing.

This works like it should, I have beat it to get tie rods to free up and the tool took the abuse well. I'm happy with the quality so far.

helped a great deal when replacing my wheel bearings. i had to take off my hubs from the ball joint and also remove the tie rod.this was a little small for my tie rod for the size of a 15/16' opening but worked great on the ball joint.metal is metal tool is strong. good buy

Used it to remove the tie rod end on my 95 Toyota Avalon as part of a steering boot replacement. Came right off with just a few hits with a 3-pound hammer. Be sure to put a caliper on your ball joint or tie rod end to see if this tool will fit. The opening on this one is 15/16". My tie rod end measured about 11/16", and I was worried this fork might be too big. But it worked fine. Did tear the boot, but that usually happens with a pickle fork. Good time to replace the tie rod end, anyway. Also in this tool's favor is the heft of the shaft. I had the sense it was a good bit thicker than my older tools. The thicker and heavier the shaft, the better it should be at transferring the force and energy of your hammer blow. If my physics is right, that is. (F = ma, and E = 1/2mv^2, so both force and work are dependent upon mass.)I was stressing because I had misplaced two different sized pickle forks I've owned for 25 years. But when I saw how cheap this tool was, I just ordered it through Amazon Prime. (I'm saving so much by doing the job myself, I shouldn't worry about 10 bucks.) I held back from awarding 5 stars only because it hasn't stood the test of time yet.
