This is a good cheap matte box. I like that I can use my circular filters with it. I like that it gives my camera that “big camera” look. It’s not the best matte box, but it does the job for its cost. I ended up with two of them. I would like to be able to buy the larger eyebrow separately but I can’t figure out how.

82mm vnd filter doesn't fit on front element, whole setup is small, don't have space to fit vnd 82mm. Third class thing... Doesn't fit with 100mm either .

Well built, nicely finished, light weight, and easy to fit the filters into the tray. One big advice: double check your tray it’s fully locked after sliding it in, otherwise the filter may slide back and fall.

Compact, light and assembly was straightforward for a few lenses such as Canon RF 70-200mm. It is possible to screw a round ND filter in front of the lens and it does not interfere with the front rectangular filter and the barn door. Overall good design. I wish all the lens adapters were included and not being sold separately.

This is the kind of item you don't need to use for a month in order to give an accurate review. Out of the box, the quality is as expected from the reviews. Solid construction throughout. Yes it comes if a very thick, sturdy and good looking box but for the people who leave reviews about the box having a corner bent instead of talking about the item, I don't know what to say except get over it, it's a box. It's meant to protect the item in shipping and that it does extremely well. Furthermore, although it's nice, you won't be using it and carrying it around in your bag to store the matte box like some competitor have because it's so tight and super hard to open and takes a few minutes of fiddling and inside things still move in transport. The flag had moved and squished against the upper screw. There was no damage but tiny scratch on the inside top portion. So, again proving that's it better to be transported in a real camera bag/backpack.Aside from it's sturdy construction, yes it is light as advertised and can be mounted directly to a lens without any problem. I had purchased this for a more expensive camera with removable lenses but now have a bridge camera. The adapter that come with with are for much larger lenses and would not even fit my other more expensive camera. I'm not sure why they don't provide a few more for the price that are more common as I had to purchase an extra box of adapters to fit to my lens of 52mm and you have to buy them from smallrig as well to make sure they work with this mount as they are metal and thick edge so the matte box ties around. The kit is an extra $30 but has 52mm and a few other more common sizes. Again for the price, they should really be included here instead of just huge lens ones. The only complaint about the matte box itself is the slide tray for the filters. The first time you take it out you think you're going to break it as it's so hard to remove. Afterwards it just seems a little flimsy in your hands compared to the rest which is so well built.Once your adapter ring is screwed onto the lens the matte box is easy to install and straightforward. The screws for tightening it and the flag screw hold very well. I like the small white line that helps you center it to your camera.CONCLUSION:All in all I would recommend the mount, even if just to "pimp out" any camera, even a bridge camera. Looks great, lightweight and yet very sturdy construction and does it's job. Would be nice to have side flaps. I would say, fix the tray, include the rings and maybe add side flaps and you have a solid unbeatable 5 stars. Otherwise I do give it a solid 4.

Very satisfied after using it for a couple of weeks, has been a great help in my filming and even in photos. Great matte box, and does not disappoint whatsoever. Love that I can add more to it as well and it is very versatile for many different size lenses. Happy with this.

Great overall design, is extremely lightweight, feels like a quality build for the money, and I love the flexibility to use either circular or rectangular filters......and it WOULD be 5 stars...HOWEVER! One overlook is when thinking of using variable ND's on larger sized lenses. On my 82mm, using a Tiffen variable ND, because the outer element on the filter is larger to help prevent vignetting, the matte box is just a touch too small to fit it in there. It's tough, as the outer frame design is catered towards the standardized rectangular filter size, which makes sense, but it feels like the matte box could have been made slightly larger, with the angle of the opening being slightly more boxy, while just thickening up the plastic rectangular filter frame to still accept 4x5.65 filters. You could then choose whether or not to utilize the plastic rectangular filter frame - it's simple to remove.I know this won't be an issue for everyone...but if it was the case that you could initially put on any filters/adapters you need, fix the matte box on the adapter ring, and have the matte box opening just SLIGHTLY larger to accommodate screwing in a variable ND from the front? This would be perfect for the run-and-gunner or one-man-show type situations with the larger sized lenses/filters...

Very impressed with this matte box from SmallRig. I never leave reviews, but I felt compelled to leave one on this because it is way better than I expected for this price point.Pro's:- Durable construction, with a carbon fibre flap and nicely chamfered metal supports- Lightweight- Perfect size for small/Run and gun rigs (mirrorless, DSLR, cine cams) I'm using it on a Zcam E2-S6- Filter tray is very easy to use- Thread support on step up rings allow for circular filter attachmentCon's- I do wish they included one more step up ring in the 58mm range, this would've helped cover a majority of lenses imo- This isn't direct to the matte box itself, but an option on Amazon to purchase an extra filter tray would be nice, I'm sure it'll be available on here soon though

Really light, simple to put on/take off, well thought out. I shoot stills with this because on set I'm fighting a lot of contré jour and having the eyebrow really helps. On my Fuji 50-140, I made a mask for the filter tray and it's amazing how small the opening is with no obstruction at any focal length. Keeps the front element nice and dark! Highly recommended if you're familiar with the concept and know how to use it. Pro gear.
