I bought the rack marked as used for a considerable discount. But from there, things went catastrophic. After 3 days driving around with skis for my trip on my roof, on day 4 on the highway the rack broke. It must have had damage or a crack I didn't see. The front flew up, twisting the back with the skis in it until it ripped open, tearing it off my car, hearing the skiis hit mu car on the way out and watching my skis and bindings spark behind me on the highway at night. I'm out the skis, mount, and the base with aero bars. Im a guy who fixes and builds cars and motorcycles. I know what im doing, and i checked it for several days afyer install to be sure it didnt move or loosen up. But I'm also a fairly smart guy. At about a $1000 loss, it's not worth a claim on my new insurance company. Don't be like me, buy a new one from an authorized dealer. I needed new skis, but this isn't how I planned it. I was going to trade in the old ones. Horrible a waste of time and money.

Bought these last minute to transport 1 pair of skis & 3 snowboards on our snow trip to Utah. Probably the best investment I could have made. Locks easily & super easy to install & remove before & after the drive up to the mountain. The 1 & only down side is it can be difficult to close at first. But once you understand the mechanism is a walk in the park. Totally worth every penny!

Rack is great for holding your snowboards or skis but if you plan on buying this because of the locking mechanism think again. The locks freeze constantly and are not useable if under -3. For a winter only rack this is very disappointing as I bought this so I could bring more than one board and have the extras locked up. I bought a Milwaukee m18 heat gun so that I am actually able to use my locks. So be cautious when buying this.

These racks worked great for 3 sets of skis and a snowboard. I still had room for 1 more set of skis. The quality of construction was nice and the rubber soft and pliable for the skis. It held everything nice and snug at highway speeds. The shape makes for a nice and quiet ride even at 70mph. I did start to hear a little noise when I hit 75 but it wasn't bad at all. The locks work nice and easy. I think my only complaint is the plastic end piece that hold it together. It would be nice at this price point if they made them out of metal so that the lock is secure.

I've had this rack for a couple weeks and believe the rack to be the best rooftop rack available for the price. Previously we owned the FatCat 6 (non "Evo" edition). We have it installed on a 2017 XC90 and it fits great on the factory crossbars. Here are some of the pros, cons, and differences of the FatCat 6 vs. the FatCat 6 evo.Pros:-The out of the box setup has been improved vs. prior edition. Just like previous versions everything is included for the install: the universal mounts, the SMS locks (which are now pre-installed which was a nice feature), the L wrench, spacers, and round cross bar adapters. With what is included I would say it's crazy if this wouldn't fit every type of cross bar out there - flat our round.-Comes in Black and Silver, we got the black, so I can't say how well the silver will hold up weather wise-Continued built-in lift kit to raise the rack on one side if snowboard bindings are tall and hitting the top of the car-Similar low-profile design as previous FatCat versions, Yakima claims it's quieter, but I can't tell any difference, the FatCat design was already super quiet in my opinion-4" wider than the FatCat 6, this is the biggest win for me(FatCat 6 = 36.5" wide vs. FatCat 6 evo = 40.5" wide); this is huge as before we could maybe get 5 pairs of powder skis on, but now we can truly get 6; the key here is that it should have been this wide in previous versions, as it will still fit on standard SUVs (as in, it's not too wide), leading to the next cool part...-the Evo version features a new offset, or what Yakima calls "Hangover" clamp attachment, basically it just provides a second hole to mount the rack if 1) you want to have the rack favor one side of the roof, or 2) your car is smaller and not wide enough (but again I don't think this will be an issue)-If your car doesn't have anything unique, you can install with zero tools, cutting down on overall time to install (probably 10-12 min in total)Cons:-NoneUPDATE: After 3 seasons of using this rack as our go to ski rack, the red Yakima logo sticker is starting to peel up. Purely aesthetic and does not impact functionality or usability, but just somewhat annoying that Yakima cant up the quality on the logo sticker.
