→ Can also be used with waste vegetable oil in the the manufacture of biodiesel, and for home brewing etc
→ These can also be used to prevent water freezing during winter months in livestock drinkers or raised ponds by connecting one to a large 12v battery recharged by a large solar panel or wind turbine, just use a basic 5 degrees c normally open thermostat and when the water temperature gets near five degrees the heater will automatically come on and warm the water by a few degrees before switching off again, one could also be used in the water storage tank in your loft if its prone to freezing in the winter months
NOTES
If you have a gas hot water heater you may wish to put an electric unit ahead of it. This way the gas heater is always being fed hot water so it does not turn on as often and for shorter periods of time when it does.
If used as a diversion (dump) load, such an element is connected to the batteries via a charge regulator. When the regulator detects that the batteries are fully charged, it diverts the generated electricity to the element which heats water.

It appears these are no tested before shipping so the customer does the quality assurance and then asks for help if it doesn't work. Furthermore, the card included with the item asks the customer to email them using a Chinese email address instead of having a proper vendor contact through Amazon.I am sending this back because it didn't work even once. Connected to a 12 VDC source (actually a bit higher to allow for load across the terminals it reads 5.86 volts and the heating element doesn't even get warm. The source (3 solar panels with a no load of 20 VDC at about 18 amps) should be more than sufficient to at least make the heating element warm. It remains cold.I then connected the heater element to a known good battery with that is fully charged (140 amp/hr) and the same result. The battery voltage at rest is 12.8 volts (AGM) and when connected the voltage immediate drops to 5+ VDC across the heater terminals.Since there is no indication of + or - heater terminals it should not matter how they are connected. Nevertheless, changing them had no effect. The heater simply doesn't work. This is a waste of time and companies that shunt their quality testing to the customers need to wake up.Heater is going back and I'll just buy something better.

Would give it 10 stars if i could.I was heating my water heater in my RV with gas was getting to expensive here at $3.60 a gallon. After doing some simple math the figures came out to 6 gallons of hot water every 2 hours in a perfect environment meaning no heat losses threw insulation. So factoring heat losses on i figured a tank of hot water every 3 hour.Worked out perfectly i now have hot water all day.Now i dont kill my batteries using the ac inverter to get hot water. Its a small burden on my solar panels 300 watts i have 4 100 panels. Not using any gas at all 2 people living here and enjoy a hot shower any time WE want one.

Even with a constant 12V feed, it only managed to bring 5 gallons of room temperature water up a couple degrees after over an hour.
